'Where everyone knows your name': Five N.Y. finds (5 Burro Cafe was highlighted in this Daily News article) |
This
cramped little hole in the wall in Forest Hills, Queens, gives Tex-Mex joints
a good name. A real Mexican chef cooks up the south of the border-style
chow but this is essentially a drinking bar, with killer margaritas swerved
up by a friendly staff who like to socialize here when they're off duty.
That's testament to 5 Burro's party atmosphere--who hangs out where they
work if they don't have to?
"We get a great crowd and a great mix, from business people coming home from work and stopping in for a drink, couples on dates or coming back from the |
movies, or groups of friends out to have a good time," says Dana Wishnoff, the daytime bartender. "We also get a lot of shoppers who stop in for a bite, then eventually become regular customers." 5 Burros
is owned by George and Marla Cornejo, a young couple with his-and-her
Harley's who treat their customers as if they're entertaining in their
living room. It's a loud, lively place where the tequila flows like the
Rio Grande. |
